FG Orders NCC To Block 9.2 Million SIM Cards That Are Unregistered

In accordance with the directives of Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, Honorable Minister of Communications, The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) presented its baseline report on short-term performance objectives, PM News reports, on the premise of office to all Agencies and Parastatals under its jurisdiction.

In a press release signed by the Speaker to the Honorable Communications Minister, Uwa Suleiman, he said the report signed by the Commission's Executive Vice President contained accurate figures of improperly registered SIM cards in use throughout the country.

In its report, the Commission revealed that an estimated nine million two hundred thousand (9.2 M) SIM cards did not meet the correct SIM registration processes.

The inquiry carried out at the Minister's behest for the first time in Nigeria's Telecomms history has revealed the magnitude of defaulters in accurate detail.

Dr. Pantami has directed NCC to guarantee that all mobile network operators block all SIM cards that do not fulfill adequate registration requirements until consumers comply with correct registration procedures in order to guarantee maximum adherence.

The safety implications of this irregularity are too serious to overlook and no activities or inactions will be tolerated by the Federal Ministry of Communications that will compromise the safety of the nation.
