#SexForGrade: Senate Proposes What To Do For Sexual Offenders In Tertiary Institutions (See Details)

On Wednesday, the Senate discussed the Sexual Harassment Bill The bill was introduced by the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, and reached second reading on the Senate floor.

The proposed legislation titled “A Bill for an Act to Prevent, Prohibit and Redress Sexual Harassment of Students in Tertiary Educational Institutions and for other matters connected therewith 2019” has 27 clauses.

This imposes a prison term of up to 14 years, with a minimum of five years, with no fine option for any teacher committing sexual crimes in tertiary institutions.

This describes sexual offenses such as: sexual intercourse with a student or sexual demands from a student or prospective student, or threatening or creating a hostile or offensive atmosphere for the student by soliciting sex or making sexual advances.

Certain forms of sexual harassment described in the bill include the grabbing, embracing, kissing, rubbing, stroking, pressing, pinching of Bosom's hair or lips or hips or buttocks or any other sensual part of a student's body;

Or sending by hand or courier or electronic or any other means naked or sexually explicit pictures or videos or sex related objects to a student, and whistling or winking at a student or screaming, exclaiming, joking or making sexually complimentary or uncomplimentary remarks about a student’s physique or stalking a student.
