An Ilorin Magistrate's court on Thursday sentenced four people to 14 days of self-isolation at the Sobi Isolation Center in Ilorin for attempting to escape with one Kazeem Oladayo, a COVID-19 patient.

In addition to the isolation term, the chief magistrate, Mr Bio Solihu, also ordered the convicts to pay a N20,000 fine each.

Solihu also directed the officers of the NSCDC who were arresting the violators to liaise with the officers of the correctional center and the Covid-19 Technical Committee of the state to ensure that the convicts were segregated.

The convicts are AbdulGaniyu Sadiq, Abdullah Isiaka, Aremu Wasiu and Sodiq Hakeem.

Both were prosecuted for violating the restriction of movement imposed by the state government, and the laws that direct patients at the isolation center.

Insp Nasir Yusuf, the lawyer, urged the court to summarily prosecute the defendants, because they had pleaded guilty.

Yusuf said the patient was an inter-state driver who had come to Ilorin from Lagos.
