Scholarships for African Students By Mauritius Government, 2022

According to the following criteria, the Government of Mauritius awards scholarships to deserving students who are citizens of African Union or African Commonwealth member countries.

Applicants for undergraduate programs must be at least 18 years old and not have reached their 26th birthday by August 22, 2022. 2.

By August 22, 2022, applicants for Master's programs should not have reached the age of 35, and applicants for PhD programs should not have reached the age of 40. 3. Applicants must have applied for a full-time on-campus program (Diploma, Degree, Master's, or PhD) at a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius (mentioned in Section 8 of the relevant Guidelines for Applicants) for the academic year beginning in 2022.

Scholarship Details:

Applications for the Scholarships should be addressed to the Nominating Agency of the applicant's home country, not directly to Mauritius.

Up to five (5) candidates for undergraduate programs will be selected and nominated by the Nominating Agency, which is usually part of the Ministry of Education (indicating clearly the level of studies for each nominated candidate).

The application forms will thereafter be sent to Mauritius by the Nominating Agency of the candidates' home country or the Ministry of Education.


Scholarship Requirements:

For Undergraduates

Candidates must have:


Either


A minimum of five (5) credits at School Certificate (S.C), or General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) ‘O’ Level or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), inclusive of a credit in English Language or acceptable evidence of proficiency in English Language ( as per para 1.3.3 below).

Or (ii). Five (5) ‘O’ Level passes awarded by any other approved examining body deemed to be equivalent to (i) above, inclusive of a pass in English Language or acceptable evidence of proficiency in English Language (as per para 1.3.3 below).

Or (iii) Qualification equivalent to (i) above.

Note:

(a) A pass in English at A-level will be acceptable in lieu of English Language at ‘O’ Level.

(b) A pass at subsidiary level and/or ‘A’ Level or equivalent will be acceptable in lieu of a pass at ‘O’ Level as per (i) and (ii) above.

(c) Some diploma programmes may have higher qualification requirements than (i) and (ii) and applications will be considered only for candidates meeting the minimum requirements of these programmes.

(d) Candidates already holding a diploma will not be considered

Scholarship Duration and Reward

The scholarship will last for the maximum amount of time given in the table below, or for the minimum amount of time indicated in the course description, whichever is less.

During their studies in Mauritius, the Scholarship will assist successful candidates in paying their tuition fees and contributing to their living expenses.

Furthermore, the scholarship includes a return flight on the most cost-effective route. This will be valid for travel from the country of origin at the start of the studies and back to the country of origin after the studies have been completed successfully.

Because only vaccinated students are admitted to higher education institutions in Mauritius, successful candidates must be vaccinated before coming to Mauritius. Successful candidates who are unable to be vaccinated due to medical reasons will be required to submit duly approved medical certificates.

Students must provide a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of leaving their native country to enter Mauritius. Upon arrival, Covid19 testing will be required.

Guidelines for Applicants

This paper contains vital information on the scholarship's terms and circumstances, the application process, and a list of public Mauritius Higher Education Institutions that offer full-time on-campus studies.

  • Form of Application (Applicants are invited to fill in the form electronically before printing)
  • Only the completed application form can be used to apply for the scholarship. The Nominating Agency in the applicant's country of citizenship should endorse and complete Section 5 of the application form.
  • An application for a scholarship under this Scheme must be made solely through the Nominating Agency responsible for the processing of scholarships in the applicant's home country.
  • Such Nominating Agency, which may typically be part of the Ministry of Education in the country of the applicant, will then shortlist and endorse the applications of a maximum of FIFTEEN (15) eligible candidates (five in each category of Undergraduate, Masters and MPhil/PhD) and submit the duly completed application forms as per the table below:


Method of Application

An application for a scholarship under this Scheme must be made solely through the Nominating Agency responsible for the processing of scholarships in the applicant's home country.

The Nominating Agency, which is usually part of the applicant's country's Ministry of Education, will then shortlist and endorse the applications of a maximum of FIFTY-FIVE (15) eligible candidates (five in each category of Undergraduate, Masters, and MPhil/PhD) and submit the duly completed application forms as shown in the table below:

  • Electronic submission deadline: 28 February 2022 / 15 August 2022
  • The deadline for hard copy submissions is 07 March 2022 / 22 August 2022.
  • Applications, together with supporting documents as required should be forwarded to the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Mauritius at the address mentioned below, for a final selection.
